Marque and model history: The Bentley marque was founded in 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley, one of the greatest automotive engineers. They built exclusively high performance grand tourers and sports cars. Bentley was acquired by arch rivals Rolls-Royce in 1931 after a fierce bidding war. After the takeover, the first model to be launched was the 3 ½ litre in 1933. These were updated versions of Rolls-Royce 20/25hp cars, built in the same premises in Derby, England. Given the sporty nature of the brand, Bentley models were always offered with performance enhancements over their RR counterparts. These Derby Bentley models remain highly collectable the world over.

Provenance: This magnificent Bentley was sold new to Maharaja Krishna Kumarsinhji Bhavsinhji of Bhavnagar State. It features desirable Sports Tourer coachwork by Vanden Plas. Subsequently it was owned by cricketer Arvind Apte.
